Overall purpose of the job:
Christie’s Education are looking to recruit an enthusiastic good all-rounder to work as part of the Learning Resources team providing general Library and IT Room assistance. The post-holder will also assist the LRC Manager with the maintenance, development and smooth provision of LRC services and deputise for her in the case of absence.
The Learning Resources Centre (LRC) provides the facilities and support needed to aid students on the Christie's Education/University of Glasgow undergrad, PgDip and M.Litt. programmes with the successful pursuit and presentation of their research into European and Chinese fine and decorative arts. The LRC comprises an art history Library, Museum Room, IT Room and Reading Room. The LRC provides computing, scanning and copying facilities for the students and is also responsible for facilitating staff and student access to a substantial catalogue of electronic resources made available via Christie’s and our accrediting body the University of Glasgow.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks:
Deliver frontline LRC user service from LRC front desk (loan circulation,
enquiries, and AV/ICT issues).
Ensure good maintenance of LRC issue desk and other public areas.
Assist with the care and maintenance of the LRC collections, including re-shelving items, shelf tidying, administering preventative conservation, recording missing books and participation in stock-take projects.
Keep track of the LRC collections ensuring items are returned in a timely
manner and delays are managed accordingly.
Assist Learning Resources Manager with the processing of all library stock, with special responsibility for serials and sales.
Assist Learning Resources Manager with classifying and cataloguing stock on to the InMagic Genie Library Management System.
Liaise with the AV/ICT Technician to report relevant issues and share
knowledge.
Provide back-up assistance with audio visual equipment in the Lecture theatres if needed.
Assist the Learning Resources Manager with the design of
communication materials such as signs, handouts, booklets etc, and developing text for the online Portal.
Collection analysis and presentation of relevant data to help inform decision making within the LRC.
Responsibility for taking formal minutes at LRC Committee meetings and ensuring LRC procedure manuals are kept up to date.
Be pro-active in helping resolve operational problems and contribute to the development of LRC procedure.
Skills/Competencies Required:
Essential:
Educated to degree level in ideally Art History or other relevant qualification.
Experience of working in either an academic and/or art library.
Experience working with automated library management systems.
Experience using and/or facilitating electronic resources for academic study.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel & Powerpoint
Experience or interest in cataloguing general library material (books, serials, CD/DVDs), including foreign language, to AACRII and LCSH standards and classifying with DDC.
Ability to work accurately with little supervision and sometimes under pressure; to use initiative and organise own work load within the constraints of providing a customer service and receiving additional demands from the LRC Manager.
Willingness to engage in the broader remit of Christie’s Education, learn and develop new skills.
Willingness to engage in and support continuous improvement at Christie’s Education
A demonstrable interest in the academic study of decorative arts/art history/art world theory & practice.
Desirable:
Experience dealing with research and bibliographic enquiries; advising on copyright and referencing.
Experience developing printed and electronic user education and promotional material.
Experience taking and manipulating digital images and/or writing for the web.
Experience working with Visual Learning Environments (VLEs) in an HE context.
Some familiarity with the use of Macs as well as PCs.
Library & Information Studies qualification or equivalent.
