CENTRE FOR STATISTICS IN MEDICINE
Research Methodologist in Medical Statistics (114804)
Grade 6: Salary in the range of £27,057 – £29,552 per annum
We are seeking to recruit a Research Methodologist to join the Centre for Statistics in Medicine at the Botnar Research Centre, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford. This is a fellowship funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Methods Programme. The fellowship will provide 2 years research time to carry out structured methodology and training in medical statistics.
The proposed research project will primarily be based around the conduct of systematic reviews of studies of prognosis, especially multivariable prognostic models. Evaluating the current practice of how prognostic models are developed and reported will be invaluable to the Fellow in gaining a thorough understanding of the statistical and other methodological issues in developing a prognostic model (but also more generally around regression modelling). You will be expected to work closely alongside a senior statistician in managing the data sources required for this project and collaborating on methodological issues in studies of prognosis.
You will have an MSc in statistics, together with considerable experience in medical statistics and expertise in patient level datasets. It is essential that you have expertise in statistical analysis packages, e.g. R, Stata or SAS software, and computing literacy in e-mail, Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and Powerpoint. You must be able to communicate results effectively in writing and verbally with colleagues in any discipline and develop novel approaches to analysis. Experience of scientific report writing and knowledge of systematic review methodology would be an advantage. Programming skills (preferably a statistical language, e.g. R, Stata) is also desirable.
This is a full-time fixed term appointment available for 2 years in the first instance.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Monday 22 September 2014. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your application.
