Dear Ed,
This sounds like a really good idea to me. I look forward to your updated website containing details of my course at the University of Leicester, plus all the other UK courses as well. Good news for drug treatment workers looking for courses, I think.
I'm happy to provide material on my course whenever you need it.
Yours truly,
Tony Priest

Dear All
I am sending this message as both an addictions MSc course leader and on behalf of the Society for the Study of Addiction (where I am the Vice President). Just in case you didn't know, the SSA is the longest running addiction society in the world (since 1884 in fact) and has charitable status. It owns the two highest impact journals in the addictions field (Addiction Biology and Addiction), and has considerable reserves that it re-invests in the addictions field every year. Its stated aim is to 'add to and promote the scientific understanding of addiction and problems related to it', and the society focuses on helping clinicians and policy makers to implement the best evidence in their work.
Why is this relevant to you? One of the key roles of the SSA is to facilitate training in the addictions field, and we run a bursary scheme that supports a large number of students to do MSc and other courses (see http://www.addiction-ssa.org/ssa_13.htm).
I am currently leading a project to re-design/overhaul our website. We wish to invest in developing a portal for accessing knowledge and resources in the field, and to be a key port of call for people looking for reliable information and about research, policy and practice. As we run the Bursary scheme, we hold one of the few updated lists of MSc and other courses in the field, and we would like to develop this further on the new site. With this in mind, I wondered whether there was interest in the group in an SSA-supported Addiction Course Convenors section on the site, incorporating this current JISCmail group? It would be nice to allow you to provide links to promote your courses on our site (as lots of students seeks advice from us about courses), and we also plan to put brief student testimonies about the courses they have attended with our support. As I mentioned earlier, the SSA is a Charity and has no wish to promote any course over another, but rather to give comprehensive information and let people decide for themselves. The advantage of our longevity and strong financial position is that we are likely to be around for a while and so we see it as our role to provide some continuity in the field in the UK.
I would be interested to know what people think...
Best wishes
Ed

Subject: Master's programmes?
Dear All
Are any of you still running Master's programmes and if so how is recruitment going?
Considering develop a Master's at Beds, possibly with a public health and international focus. However would be helpful to know how recruitment is going and whether you've got any lessons to share - good or bad?!
Thanks in advance
Sarah
