BRITISH RECORDS ASSOCIATION
VOLUNTEER SUPPORT FOR THE RECORDS PRESERVATION SECTION
The Records Preservation Section of the British Records Association receives historical documents, generally from solicitors, sometimes by gift from others. We currently have a considerable amount of interesting archival material (mainly deeds) in our custody at our central London office in Finsbury, which we are preparing for despatch to appropriate record offices.
We are looking for one or more part-time volunteers to assist with the sorting and summary listing of this material and we would welcome expressions of interest from professionally qualified or suitably experienced archivists, who are able to work with minimal supervision and enjoy the challenge of working with a wide range of British conveyancing and related legal and estate records from a variety of historical periods. We regret that we are not able to provide extensive training, so the work would not be suitable for pre-archive course students.
This opportunity would particularly suit individuals who are free to work flexibly by arrangement from between a day a month to one or two days a week . The work is on a voluntary basis but the Association would pay reasonable travelling expenses where appropriate.
If you are interested in finding out more about this work, and wish to assist us with our continuing efforts to rescue and find suitable places of deposit for historical records at risk, please contact either Dr Nat Alcock ([log in to unmask]) or Dr Anthony Smith ([log in to unmask]).
