A one day meeting jointly organised by The Royal Society of Medicine (https://www.rsm.ac.uk/) and The Farr Institute of Health Informatics Research (http://www.farrinstitute.org/)
The aim of this event is to enable participants to develop understanding of the current status of UK electronic health data usage for public health benefit.
Objectives:
- Highlight the existing usage of primary care record data in health research, and report on proposed extensions of this through new initiatives
- Update attendees on current governance developments regarding secondary data use, and suggest methods of engaging patients in both self-care through access to personal data, and development and conduct of research.
- Discuss the ethical issues around balancing public health benefit of using primary health care records with individual risk
- Showcase novel ways in which electronic health data are being used for public health benefit
Speakers include representatives from general practice, the pharmaceutical industry, Public Health England, and Farr Institute academic organisations.
