QUICS “Quantifying Uncertainty in Integrated Catchment Studies”, is advertising for 11 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) who will be registered to study for a PhD, starting November 2014 and 1 Experienced Researcher (ER) to start August / September 2014. Further posts will become available later in the project.
Within the QUICS Marie Curie ITN leading engineers and scientists will collaborate with private sector companies to train researchers capable of developing and implementing uncertainty management tools for the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The consortium will develop new uncertainty assessment tools that can be used in WFD implementation studies. The research will address uncertainty propagation at the spatial and temporal scales found in catchments and develop tools to reduce uncertainty by optimising sampling and monitoring and the objective selection of model structures. This will reduce uncertainty in model predictions and improve the quality of our surface waters, and reduce costs of implementing the WFD.
The salary (living allowance) researchers will receive is according to the rules of the FP7 2013 People Work Programme. In addition to a living allowance researchers will also receive a monthly mobility allowance, the amount of which is a function of the researcher's family situation at the time of recruitment.
Additional financial contributions by individual host institutions might be indicated in the vacancies of the specific projects.
Researchers will be based at one of 8 leading European universities or research centres (Technical University Delft and Wageningen University, The Netherlands; EAWAG, Switzerland; Henri-Tudor, Luxembourg; University of Coimbra, Portugal; Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany; University of Bristol and University of Sheffield, UK).
As part of the Initial Training Network, researchers will experience high levels of training and development and will be seconded to universities, companies and research centres throughout Europe during the project.
The 12 posts are being advertised in stages, with closing dates between 24th July and early September 2014.
