This post was sent in answer to a request for publications and information
regarding counseling and therapy for orchestra musicians experiencing
stress, anxiety and so forth on a sport psychology discussion group.
Here is my response to this request and for the purpose of this post, I
have added sample citations to provide a sense of the type of literature
responds to this issue.
Also, please be aware of a high potential of off topic sources that may be
found in the search results I link to. Musicians play music. That has to
be one of my brighter observations of this week. Music is promoted as a
remedy for stress and anxiety for those who take time to listen to it.
Hence the combination of terms for stress, terms for musicians and terms
for treatment in combination may produce a literature on audience stress
reduction through listening to music using the same terms which it is
hoped will capture a literature about musician stress treatments. In some
searches, noise or off topic content is inevitable given the multiple
focuses of the word combinations needed to find sources about the actual
topic of interest. One cannot stress this point enough.

Here are several links to published sources relevant to treatment of
stress and anxiety of musicians and orchestra members as I listen to and

Always keep in mind that many musicians become famous because they are
professionally very noted people and they are knowledgeable in that they
really know the score.
