Dear Colleague
In 2009 I did a small survey of the extent and nature of Quantitative Methods teaching on UK undergraduate social science degrees. Although it was a modest exercise, its value proved to be immense in making the case for more methods teaching and more resources for it.
Five years on, I'm repeating this exercise. I'm aware that online surveys risk becoming an academic nuisance, but I hope that you'll agree with me that this is one example where the results will be well worth the time invested to produce them.
I'm delighted that Sage publications have agreed to 'sponsor' the survey so that there will be a prize draw for all completed returns with FOUR chances to win a voucher for £75 of Sage books.
The survey is run through Bristol Online Survey and is now available to access at:
https://www.survey.ed.ac.uk/uqmt
The survey comprises two sections, with the second section accessed by a link at the end of section one.
Please pass this email on to relevant colleagues, so that the survey coverage is as comprehensive as possible. I'm particularly keen to elicit responses from departments where there is still little or nothing happening and which may have hitherto slipped 'under the radar'.
The results of the survey will be presented at the next QM teachers workshop on 24 September at the British Academy. Details of this workshop and how to register will follow soon.
With best wishes
John MacInnes
