Hi Sharon,
Not sure if you had any response to this.
Our organisation has some retained Fire Fighters and we apply the guidance from the ODP, which although is quite old now, hasn't been superseded as far as I'm aware.
Essentially, for distance vision, the standard is uncorrected 6/9 or better
For near vision, uncorrected and corrected vision, under 25 on entry N6 or better.
For over 25 on entry or existing Fire Fighter N12 or better.
The standards reflect the requirement to see casualties in low luminance environments. The age issue relates to myopic shift across the age ranges.
Regards,
Matt

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Firefighter Visual Standards
Can anyone who works with fire and rescue teams point me in the direction of what visual acuity standards should be met, and what are the guidelines in the case of monocular vision? I am aware that some forces undertake functional as well as visual testing
