Accentuate in partnership with Screen South are developing a groundbreaking new disability heritage initiative supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. We are seeking to recruit an exceptional individual for the development phase of this programme, entitled Accentuate History of Place. This project will create a comprehensive picture of National Disability Heritage, in relation to the built environment. The Disability Heritage Archivist role would suit someone interested in researching the little known area of disabled people's heritage in relation to the built environment.
Brief
The self-employed Archivist/Disability Heritage Specialist Consultant will consult and work with the Accentuate history of Place project partners to investigate, assess and produce a comprehensive list of maps, architectural plans, photographs, diary entries, letters and medical records and other source materials suitable for the Accentuate History of Place project. To produce a digital options appraisal putting forward recommendations on the digitisation and cataloguing of some of the resources to go onto the Accentuate website in the delivery phase. This research will ensure the key places where source material is held will have been identified ready for further exploration with local heritage groups and volunteers during the delivery phase. The consultant will liaise with the Accentuate Heritage Ideas Hub report to the Accentuate History of Place Interim Programme Manager and the Accentuate Programme Executive.
The technical aspect of the role will be to provide Accentuate History of Place Interim Programme Manager and team with specialist knowledge to successfully support in the heritage assessment and identifying, in partnership with local heritage volunteers and record offices, where archive material can be sourced. The consultant will be expected to undertake desktop studies and as well as make visits to record offices throughout the country. They should have an awareness of the built environment and social history preferably within a disability history context. The consultant will be expected to work both independently and as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team to achieve these deliverables, often to tight deadlines and budgets. Time management will be key to meeting ever increasing demands.
To meet the technical demands of the role, the successful applicant will be expected to have an awareness of disability Heritage and expertise in archive research and ideally be able to demonstrate experience of national project work.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Identifying where current archive material is deposited in relation to the 15 sites across the UK.
• Listing what source material is currently available and where this is currently deposited.
• Undertaking cultural heritage assessment for Accentuate History of Place development project.
• Focus on supporting the development of learning tools learning and obtaining feedback both internally and externally, where appropriate to ensure compliance and fit for purpose.
Fee: This is a freelance contract with a maximum fee of £9,000.00 available for this piece of work. Part of the assessment of applications will be value for money.
