I can’t remember who suggested it, but the gist of it was that FreeRADIUS could output attributes via a unix socket in a documented format.
Applications could attach to that socket, do what they need to do out-of-process, and send their own reply back to FreeRADIUS via the socket - meaning that there would be no need to embedded interpreters within FreeRADIUS, and you could attach anything you wanted to the socket.
