If we’re not currently exposing it and no one has a use case, then my initial reaction is to continue not exposing it.

Assumptions:
 * this is not an either/or decision (i.e. it becomes no more complex to implement if we wait).
 * this would not be a breaking change (i.e. as the TR protocol is extensible, my expectation would be that we could add this feature if required without a breaking code change).
