I'm sorry but it seems to me shocking that there are any media scholars whose reaction to a relatively rare moment when MECSSA's mail-list has had some real connection to matters of current(urgent) political importance, is to threaten to unsubscribe.
To be frank, it also strikes me as dangerously close to the kind of indulgent positions academics are often accused of occupying, to threaten to disengage from a live debate - in favour of a safe and deferred event in a closed space?
As Joanne Knowles makes clear below - if people are actually upset by the presence of this debate in the list, then just do it - unsubscribe.
The intrusion of the political into our comfortable and very safe lives, is often messy, ungoverned and a bit threatening - thankfully! it also should be inevitable. What are we for if not to active encourage and participate in debates like this.

To all those sending messages that they wish to unsubscribe: this can be done without sending emails to the list and compounding the problem of email traffic. It might be instructive to (re) read the instructions on how this and other email distribution lists operate.
As well as the general interest of the discussion taking place, I’ve been interested to note the frequent references made by those who dislike the Gaza discussion to the ‘more appropriate place’ where such discussions should be happening. If anyone should find this utopian location where social and political discussion can be conducted without the slightest hint of inconvenience, dissent or offence ever being caused to anyone, please let me know where I can find it. In the meantime, thanks to Gabriel Moreno for attempting to facilitate making a space available for (no doubt imperfect) discussions to take place.
An earlier respondent wrote of their wish to keep this email list free of the political discussions (and the tone of those discussions) that had dominated their other social media feeds. As a cultural studies scholar I do not wish to see my professional life as something entirely separate from day-to-day social and political concerns and the impact of world events. It’s been eye-opening to see how differently people can feel about this. Like most others, I often receive messages from the MECCSA list that do not personally interest me. It’s never been more than a moment’s trouble to hit the delete key. What a pity that either silencing or moving a whole topic of serious discussion seems in some views to be the preferred solution.

Protesters who went on streets of London and other cities in the UK to protest the BBC coverage of the conflict made #BBCtruth4Gaza hashtag very popular on Twitter, while online users stormed the US based channel ABC with complaints for misleading viewers by using a picture of bombing victims in Gaza claiming that it’s an image from Israel. Consequently the channel had to apologize later for misinforming viewers . These are examples of how online and offline activism are coupling and contributing to the failure of Israel war propaganda.

- Israeli press complicity
If any of you is looking for a professional and non-biased coverage of the war on Gaza in the Israeli media, I tell you it would be a hard task. In any war that Israel declares on Palestinians or Lebanon, the so called free Israeli press would become part of the Israeli war media machine. Except for Haaretz which is left oriented newspaper, most of the Israeli media outlets cover the war from the far right Israeli government perspective. Even Haaretz coverage of this war is biased, as the newspaper failed so far to report the war professionally. This shouldn’t be surprising if we learn that according to recent polls, 87% of Israelis support Netanyahu war on Palestinians.

- Ashdod/Asdod
One last issue I wanted to mention here is about Ashdod/Asdod that Dr. Elina Bardach-Yalov told us she lives in. Ashdod is the Hebrew name of a Palestinian village called in Arabic “Asdod” whose people were forced by the Zionists militias in 1947-1948 to leave and take refuge in Gaza strip. So in 2014, Palestinians of Asdod who are now refugees for more than 65 years in Gaza are asked by those who took their homes by force in 1948 to not resist at all and accept being murdered silently.
