This has nothing to do with the "openness of social media". I share the concern that has been expressed about the situation in Gaza, and condemn the actions both of the Israeli government and Hamas. But for the past few weeks all of my social media feeds have been dominated by a discussion of the Middle East that is blinkered, reductive and hateful. I'd quite like it if my work email was the one place where I can get away from it. It's not too much to ask that an email list dedicated to academic study of media and communication be just that, is it?

Anybody who criticises Israel’s actions, and especially when it comes to its relationship with the Palestinians, is liable to be deluged with the kind of stuff which Dr Bardach-Yelov is churning out – indeed, with far, far worse – but I must admit to being rather surprised at encountering it in this context.
