Has anyone tried out Google Cardboard? Or Oculus Thrift as the BBC
dubbed it! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-28120953
Last night I found that I could drop my phone into a Victorian
stereoviewer and get surprisingly good results with their app. I've
also seen people already talking about making a slightly scaled up
version that will accept a small tablet.
Cheers, James

It’s not a system that works for only one collection. It allows users to download the app and use on their own devices and via devices handed out by the organisation. It allows users to wander around with a device.

The app also supports a further layering of information and providing journey themes for a collection. It also supports social media and recording of own audio which is great for community engagement and school groups.

We won't be focusing on coming up with new ways to develop 3D models for the AR but on practical ways of improving the recognition of the 3D models themselves.

While this sounds like an exciting and interesting prospect to most of the team, there are some key people who remain unconvinced, concerned that few museums seem to have employed this. They would like more evidence that this is a tested technology, and would like to know of examples that they might be able to see in action.
