Dear all,
I was sent this because I attended the EGU this year,
but the medal seems to be of sufficient interest to
broadcast to our list. The website says that they aim to
award the medal to someone "still in the midst of their career"
so you might consider candidates at the same time as
considering Bullerwell Lectureship candidates (see Mike
Kendall's email last week). The candidate's
CV and list of top ten publications are required, and also
a "concise statement of achievements" and a "brief encomium"
(1 page long) (formal speech or piece of writing praising someone).
It is not clear whether you can second a nomination, other than
by making a separate nomination of the same person.
Regards,
Sheila Peacock,
list co-owner.

Dear Sheila Peacock,
Dear Colleagues,
The Copernicus Gesellschaft e.V., exclusive partner of Copernicus Meetings & Publications (see http://www.copernicus.org/about_us.html), invites you and your colleagues to suggest appropriate candidates from the international community of the geo- and space sciences for the Copernicus Medal. For the first time this award was presented in 2014 (see http://www.copernicus-gesellschaft.org/medal.html).
The Copernicus Medal recognizes ingenious, innovative work in the geosciences and in the planetary and space sciences and in their exceptional promotion and international cooperation, in particular of colleagues being still in the midst of their scientific career.
Any suggestions will be assessed by an international and interdisciplinary committee and the award will be presented at a special commemorative event in 2015.
Please note that this medal is not in competition with other medals presented by scientific associations and societies collaborating with us on conferences or publications.
We kindly ask you to submit your proposal(s) by 31 October 2014 at the latest by email to [log in to unmask], or by regular mail to:
Copernicus Gesellschaft e.V.
att. Copernicus Medal

Thank you very much for your attention.
Kind regards,
Prof. Dr. Kristian Schlegel
