The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant with a background in Games Programming and Computer Vision to join the School of Computer Science.
The post is fixed-term for 12 months funded by the University Strategic Research Investment Fund (RIF). The successful candidate will play a key role in investigating the design of motion-based video games for people using power wheelchairs – wheelchairs that are controlled using a joystick rather than physical effort – with a focus on the added benefit that physical interaction might yield over sedentary input. The project aims to investigate the potential of wheelchair-controlled video games to encourage the adoption of a positive view on the assistive device as an enabling rather than a limiting property, and help foster inclusion by providing enjoyable game-based physical experiences for persons with mobility impairments.
An ideal candidate should hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a background in games programming, computer vision, or in a related discipline, with good programming skills (e.g. C#/C++). Experience of working with camera-based user interfaces and experience in games programming is desirable.
The post will start on 1st August 2014, or as soon thereafter as practical. If you would like to know more about this opportunity, please contact Dr Kathrin Gerling, [log in to unmask]
