ST EDMUND HALL in the UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD
PART-TIME ARCHIVIST
Grade 6 (£26,527 – £31,644 pro rata)
Applications are invited for the part-time (two days per week) role of Archivist at St Edmund Hall, Oxford.
The College is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and professionally-qualified Archivist, who will be responsible for ensuring that the College’s records and historically valuable documents are preserved and organised in such a way that they are available for all who wish to consult them. This will be achieved by maintaining and improving the conditions in which the archives are kept, developing the archive catalogue, processing accessions, dealing with enquiries, and embedding the archives in the life of the College. The post builds on the achievements of the College’s first archivist, and offers opportunities to advance and extend the management and use of the Archive.
The successful candidate must have: experience overseeing one or more archives; a professional qualification in archive administration; excellent organisational, interpersonal, communication, and IT skills; a knowledge of Latin; a demonstrable track record in liaising with a wide variety of users; expertise in devising and maintaining records-management systems; and an enthusiasm for communicating the importance and relevance of archival records to the college community and to the wider public. An awareness of current cataloguing and indexing standards is essential, as is familiarity with Data Protection, Copyright and Freedom of Information legislation.
This post will be on a three year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension. The salary is on the academic-related grade 6 in the range £26,527 - £31,644 pro rata, plus excellent additional benefits and Senior Common Room membership. The appointment will be made on the scale according to experience.
