Hi
I am currently a Research Volunteer in a heritage project in the south side of Glasgow.
It is the Govan Stones, one of Scotland's largest collection of early medieval art.
We have a lot of good, generous funding sources from Historic Scotland and very good links with local history initiatives. We also have a healthy summer forecast this Summer Commonwealth games and a free riverside ferry coming from near the new Riverside Transport Museum.
Nevertheless, I am still, however, looking for ways to maximise publicity/consolidated networks with other similar places of interests. Networking between early medieval places of interest, I believe, is a "gap in there market" and a lot could be learned if more ideas were shared.
I've been in touch with an author and expert in Pictish field of study. He has suggested sticking to Scotland as there are other good sources of Pictish heritage such as Portmahock and Melrose Abbey, as England tends to concentrate on the Anglo Saxon dimension and in Wales early medieval objects tend to be few and far between.
The obvious starting point would be sending relevant literature to be displayed in other places, but I just wondered if anyone had any tips/advice or previous experience in building up publicity/networking to promote small scale heritage projects (even in museums with an entirely different focus)
Thanks,
Kevin F.
