Dear All,
Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Statistics, with interests
in any area of statistics, who will help to enhance and extend the
School's expertise and capacity in this area, both through teaching (at
undergraduate and postgraduate level) and research (including the
supervision of PhD students). This forms a part of a number of strategic
appointments to strengthen the statistics in the School of Mathematics.
At present, the School has eight permanent members of staff in statistics
who are part of the Probability and Statistics Group, and there are also
close links with statisticians elsewhere in the University, particularly
those in the School of Community-Based Medicine, the School of Social
Sciences and Manchester Business School.
The main duties of the posts will lie in research and teaching.
You will be expected to undertake high-quality research in relevant areas
and publish the results in world-leading journals, books or similar organs
and make applications for research grants and funding.
You will need to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students by means of
lectures, seminars, tutorials and examples classes, continually developing
teaching material and learning experiences for students and acting as
academic advisor to undergraduate students in accordance with the Schoolıs
current practice.
You should have a PhD or equivalent relevant experience and are expected
to be a recognised researcher in a relevant area of statistics or, if in
an earlier career stage, to show exceptional promise and ability; have a
record of original high-impact research, as evidenced by publications in
internationally-leading journals or, if at an earlier career stage, show
very strong potential to do so; be willing and able to supervise
postgraduate research students.
