"Access to data at the Health and Social Care Information Centre
Many health statistics researchers and analysts will be aware of a moratorium on provision of data by the HSCIC while a review of access arrangements has been carried out. HSUG (Health Statistics User Group) has been liaising with the HSCIC to represent users' concerns and to agree a way forward. The latest situation is set out in the 'HSUG Material' section of the website www.hsug.org.uk and will be of particular interest to those with requests for data in the pipeline.
We understand that work is ongoing to resolve the immediate issues, as well as laying the framework for improved procedures in the future. HSCIC has now published a draft "Code of Practice on Confidential Information" for comment. The document is at <http://systems.hscic.gov.uk/infogov/codes/cop>http://systems.hscic.gov.uk/infogov/codes/cop
and comments are requested by 18 August, by means of a survey link available from the same web page.
HSCIC would welcome feedback on the document from HSUG members, or from their contacts, so please feel free to circulate this request to your networks, as well as making comments yourself. It is expected that the Code of Practice will be a key underpinning document in future, and your help in getting it right will be much appreciated. "
