I think the problem is that many schools don't have anything at the moment
and don’t see why they need it. Often sports pitches are on the most
difficult land to access (up hills) and the current cost cutting exercises
are making it worse.

DfE advises that BB102 is advisory, the advisory note from the DfE on
schools on the Equality Act is at best 'limited' at worse wrong.

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/31
5587/Equality_Act_Advice_Final.pdf

In the section on the Equality Duty no mention of those covered; parents,
visitors, third party users; it talks about pupils and staff. If the
education department can't get that right what chance do the schools have?

If someone has an example of accessible sports facilities in a school I
would love to see them.

Sport is an integral part of the school curriculum for 'all students'..
It would be a foolhardy establishment that failed to make an appropriate
provision on a technicality...
I suspect diminished access to sports facilities would be VERY difficult to
defend..
Given the recent Olympics it would be an interesting case if it went to
court..

covered under the Equality Act and have obligations under the public sector
duties. This covers not just pupils, but also staff, third party users,
visitors and parents. Access to services in an equal manner is a requirement
and any deviation from that equality must be reasonably justifiable, you
know and I know often it isn't.

so I have discovered that some new schools are being designed without steps
and ramps if necessary to overcome a change in level. I have also come
across ramp and path gradients which are not being installed to any known
standard and inappropriate path surfaces such as gravel are being used. I
have challenged these, if nothing else on the grounds of common sense, but
have come against a brick wall because there is no standard which says
specifically that these facilities must be accessible to all. I know that BS
8300 does include buildings and associated facilities but this is considered
a recommendation and not a requirement.
