Hi Michelle
My post is an 8A and I am a BMS not a Clinical Scientist. In this Trust the post is classed as POCT Manager rather than Co-ordinator; I was a BMS3 before I took up this post and had extensive management experience.
The Trust is a large teaching hospital and regional referral centre that covers three sites and EVERYTHING in anyway related to POCT is my responsibility. I am attached to Blood Sciences but it is a Directorate post. I find it hard to define the difference between Co-ordinator and Manager in respect of POCT, except maybe by the lines of reporting, degree of autonomy, back up support, business management and strategic components of the roles.
I think that the banding is hugely dependant upon the size and complexity of the Trust combined with the perceived scope of the role within that Trust.
Good luck with your banding.
Kind regards,
Carol

Subject: POCT co-ordinator banding
Dear POCT subsrcibers
I have recently been appointed POCT co-ordinator at Blackpool, and the post is currently up for banding review. It was advertised as a 7, but the managers are hoping for it to become an 8a. Does anyone have any input as to how their role was banded? Were JAQs used, or was the job description written to match the band? I seem to understand that there are a number of band 7 and band 8a POCT co-ordinators throughout the UK.
Regards
Michelle
