Hi
Just catching up after two weeks away but we are also considering introducing charges and we will be offering a better deal than Dundee just down the road. In our case the first hour is free and then £29/hour thereafter.

Hello everyone,
My Museum Studies MA dissertation was basically a cost/benefit analysis of enquiries in museums. It's far from perfect - three years on I can see plenty I wish I'd done differently! - but it does give some evidence of the value of enquiries and some suggestions for efficient ways of handling them. If anyone is really interested get in touch with me off-list and I'm happy to send it to you.
It looks like we are going to start charging for enquiries at Birmingham Museums soon, although I think it's fair to say the curators are quite uniformly against it for the reasons already given by so many - the bureaurocracy, public dissatisfaction and missed opportunities for engagement, collections knowledge etc.
All the best,
Luanne
