Angela,
I have done this with the marsbar utility, available at
http://marsbar.sourceforge.net, which allows you to convert images to
regions-of-interest and combine them in various ways, and convert them
back to images.
The marsbar software comes with a set of AAL anatomic regions, but for
better accuracy you may want to consider the maximum probability atlas
created by Hammers et al. and available here:
http://biomedic.doc.ic.ac.uk/brain-development/index.php?n=Main.AdultMaxProb.
