Dear Student,
Greetings! You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Dr. Meredith Terlecki in the Department of Psychology at the University of East London.
This study evaluates different computerised formats of an alcohol and drug education curriculum. The curriculum is designed to be useful for students who are interested in learning more about alcohol and drugs use, including ways to reduce risks from drinking or drug use if they choose to do so.
The first step of the study involves completing a survey (30-minute) to see if the longer study is right for you. If the longer study is right for you, we will ask you to complete one more survey. The second survey takes about 15 minutes. After completing it, you’ll be entered into a lottery drawing for four 25GBP vouchers to local and online retailers. We'll ask you to complete the first survey now (within 2 weeks), and the other in about 4-weeks (within 2 weeks) from now. Whether or not you participate in the longer study, we hope you will participate in the initial survey now. All questionnaires will be completed online using a secure server supporting 128-bit encryption, which provides the highest level of protection of your confidentiality.
After completing the surveys, you will have the opportunity to discuss your drug and alcohol use in a confidential and private setting during one or two no-cost appointments with Dr. Terlecki or other research staff if you wish, although this part it is not required. If you wish to complete this section, you will be asked to participate in a short interview about your experience in the study. This interview will be audio recorded, but anonymous and private.
All data collected will be retained in accordance with the UEL’s Data Protection Policy. Research data is confidential and private unless you reveal that you are an imminent harm to self/others or it is legally compelled.
Participation in this study is voluntary, and you may refuse participation or stop participating at any time without jeopardizing your academic standing, academic assessment, or relationship with (School).
