Hi Mike
Thanks for your message. The positives are that Freecycle provides tried and tested infrastructure that supports 1000s of groups and that can be point in place for free (apart from the time spent by volunteers) and quickly. It's a way to get things moving and at no expense to the sector. That's not to say that there isn't scope for developing and evolving the scheme in whatever way it is deemed desirable after it has been up and running for a while and we can all see what is working well and where there are the areas for improvement. While we (Urban Salon) are happy to provide some impetus to get things going, this is an scheme that we are keen is owned, used and evolved by the whole industry.
Be great if you could get involved to help both with the techy side of things, talk APIs and to prevent any overzealous modding. BTW I am a moderator at the moment, so if I get overzealous just let me know. Alternatively how about becoming a moderator? We're looking for volunteers.
All the best,
Caroline
