UK University Presses partner with Kudos to help authors maximize article impact
Edinburgh University Press<http://www.euppublishing.com/>, Liverpool University Press<http://www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/> and Policy Press<http://www.policypress.co.uk/> at the University of Bristol have announced a new partnership with Kudos<http://www.growkudos.com>, a start-up service designed to help researchers and their institutions and funders measure, monitor and maximize the visibility and impact of their published articles.
Launched in 2014, the Kudos platform provides a new way for authors to use social media to engage the digital community with their research.
By creating profiles for their published articles, and adding short titles, lay summaries and impact statements, authors can make their articles more engaging for a digital readership accustomed to strategically browsing the millions of potential papers at their fingertips.
A Kudos-led survey of almost 4,000 researchers from a range of subject disciplines revealed that 85% of responders thought that more could be done to raise the visibility, impact and usage of their work. Crucially 80% felt, given sufficient tools and support that they were in the best position to directly increase levels of visibility, impact and usage. Visibility is of increasing importance to authors, as an ever-growing number of online articles encourage readers to view research more strategically.
"It's exciting to be working with the university press community. We share a commitment to increasing the dissemination of scholarship, and non-profit publishers often have close relationships with their research communities, which Kudos is ideally placed to help nurture and develop, said Melinda Kenneway, Co-Founder, Kudos
We are delighted to be working with Kudos to boost the discoverability of Edinburgh University Press journal articles and authors, in keeping with our mission to advance and disseminate knowledge and understanding via our scholarly works, said Sarah Edwards, Head of Journals at Edinburgh University Press
Clare Hooper, Journals Publishing Manager at Liverpool University Press said, At a time when research impact has never been more closely scrutinised, a partnership with Kudos will enhance the visibility of Liverpool University Press journal articles and ensure that the high quality work of our authors reaches the widest possible audience.
"We're delighted to be involved with Kudos. As a publisher aiming to make a difference to society, it's vital to see our publications disseminated as widely as possible. This partnership will bring visibility and attention to our journal articles and help authors and funders keep track of the impact their work is having," said Julia Mortimer, Head of Journals at Policy Press
