This looks interesting. I haven't had a chance to investigate it yet but I'd like to know if it means you can pick out individual articles from a variety of journals and create your own themed ejournal?

If so, I'd be very concerned with applying this to subscription titles because contracts normally prohibit the repackaging or reformatting of content.

I'm investigating BrowZine
http://thirdiron.com/browzine/

I downloaded it on to my android tablet and tested it with open access journals and it works a treat.

Now to find out about those journals that require authentication.

If anybody has any insight into this product I'd be interested to know.

Hello,

Recently here at U.W.E we have been thinking about collecting this information to build into renewal practices, probably more along the lines of Gerhard's work. I was wondering if there had been any progress on the task below or an update from JISC?

Best wishes,

John

Hi all,

At Bolton, we take the view that because there are so many possible variations, we just can't offer the support that we might like to. We keep an eye out for developments and let our users know, but we haven't systematically tested much at all. So we're really just promoting awareness and rely very much on our user community to let us know of any issues. That said, it's definitely a growth area, so I think that a collaborative effort to make the most of these added services would be a very interesting development.

Best wishes,

Sarah

Hi All,

Here at Abertay I've carried out a huge amount of testing on various platforms/devices for all our subscribed content and tried to gather together as much info as I could on mobile site versions and designated apps (again, just for our subscription databases and journals) I too have found this to be something of an impossible task. It's such a dynamic area that as soon as you have completed one round of testing - a new OS/device/app version has been released!

I would also be very keen to be involved in a collaborative effort.

Best Wishes,

Lisa

Hi Claire,

We've been wanting to investigate compatibility of our e-resources with mobile devices for some time. We did some work on producing an ereader compatibility guide for our ebook collections back in 2011 but we haven't found the time to update this and build on it since then.

As others have pointed out, it's an almost impossibly large task that would definitely benefit from some collaborative effort! King's would be interested in being involved.

Kind regards,

Anna

Hi Alison and Gerhard

Thank you for getting back to me. I think we have the start of a mobile 'community'.

I have been talking to Jisc Collections and others about this and hope to have some news soon.

Best wishes

Dear Claire and Gerhard,

I have been investigating different devices for compatibility with our e-resources. I realise that the task is large and constantly changing as new devices and software are released. In fact it is impossible to do alone!

I would be very keen to collaborate with others in this task.

Alison

Dear Claire,

here at Bern university library, we recently decided to start recording e-ressources compatibility issues:

  * compatibility of e-content with a range of platforms - Mac, Linux, Windows, iOS, Android

  * compatibility of e-content with local standard configurations, such as staff/student computers and library thin clients, to help identify missing plug-ins or viewer software

  * compatibility of e-content with other software, e.g. reference management packages

We realise that only a collaborative effort between subject librarians, institutional librarians, e-library, IT and systems staff is likely to bring together the wide range of information we need to collect and constantly update, and that a wiki will be the most versatile tool to store this information. With your suggestion of a collaboration between several organisations, you are already one step ahead... Have others expressed an interest in participating? I think we'd be interested!

Best regards

Gerhard

Dear All

I was wondering whether anyone is routinely assessing third party licensed content for its usability on mobile devices? If you are, would you be willing to share your method and / or some of your results?

We would ideally like to 'kite mark' content for its mobile device compatibility because we are aware of a fast-growing demand from library users for this type of access. I appreciate that there are hundreds of different devices but we would probably just choose a few of the main ones to test with. Even this is a mammoth task so would anyone be prepared to work collaboratively on a pilot to at least start something off?

If so, please contact me.
