Dear Herculean Colleages,

Welcome to the Hercules List! This is a JISC mailing list, which takes as its starting point those who participated in the conference _Hercules: a Hero for All Ages_ hosted at Leeds University in June 2013. The list is now open to all, and and conceived as a means of facilitating communication for Stage 2 of the longer-term Hercules Project.

1. THE HERCULES PROJECT WEBSITE
The Project’s website (http://www.leeds.ac.uk/arts/homepage/401/hercules_project) will be updated regularly as details of all aspects of the project develop.

2. THE NEXT CONFERENCE
_Herakles inside and outside the Church: from the first Apologists to the end of the Quattrocento_
To be held at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, 23-26 June 2015
The Call for Papers is attached here, and available for download from the Hercules Project’s website (URL above). NB the deadline for proposals is fast approaching (15th June 2014 for individual papers, 30th June for panel proposals), but please contact the conference organisers if this is a problem: Arlene Allan ([log in to unmask]) and Evangelina Anagnostou-Laoutides ([log in to unmask]).

3. PUBLICATIONS AND FURTHER COLLOQUIA
Given the wide chronological and topical range of papers delivered at the 2013 conference, immediate publication of the proceedings would have been impractical. Rather, the idea is now to develop a selection of specific themes, with a view to eventual publication of a series of volumes on Herculean reception.
The 2015 Otago conference will cover the first of these themes. Thereafter the following three areas are to be developed: the exemplary Hercules from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment and beyond; Hercules performed; Hercules in modern popular culture. Please let me know if you would be interested in participating in the development of any of these.

Best wishes,
Emma Stafford
