We have a requirement for a Geographic Information (GI) Technical Solutions Manager who will be responsible for the direction of GIS strategy within the Company and the operational management of the GI Applications group. It is expected that the role will generate appropriate solution design and support the implementation and management of GIS services for prospective Customers and to support existing Customers with usage, system and GIS related business requirements identification.
Main Responsibilities
•As GIS Technical Authority, to provide input to Corporate strategy for technical GI design in conjunction with Business, Operations, Delivery and Innovations Management Teams
•To provide GIS expertise in the fields of hosting, data management, web delivery and GIS applications and sharing knowledge appropriately
•Develop, prepare and deliver Customer presentations / workshops to demonstrate the Company’s GI Technical Competence at both pre-sales and project stages
•Guidance of GI related projects through the whole lifecycle in accordance with the required company standards and procedures, and any Customer Quality Standards required. To identify any issues that have not been identified in the requirements analysis and recommend appropriate solutions
•Advise on geospatial policy and development as and when requested
•Identify new opportunities where appropriate and pass to business development
•In partnership with the technical specialists seek to develop new and innovative solutions to current and future business and client needs necessary for the Company to remain competitive
•Deliver technical content to proposals, bids and quotes
•To provide guidance and management of the GI Technical resources through the whole project lifecycle in accordance with quality standards
•To guide or define changes to strategy as required by changes in the environment or lessons learnt with the GI Technical Delivery
•Carry out site visits as GI Technical Authority with ability to interact and influence technical and non-technical staff
•To represent the Company on project teams to ensure the best possible advice is given regarding the delivery and implementation of the GI Project Solution
•To maintain awareness of and develop GIS technologies and techniques relevant to the Company, with special relevance to future position within that industry
•To resource and assist Research and Development assignments in support of the Company’s objectives
•To actively promote quality management within the Geo-Consultancy Group and work within the scope and guidelines of Business Management System;
Preferred Skills
•A proven strong track record of GI Solution Delivery (10+ years) within a commercial environment; knowledge and experience of the government sector would be an advantage
•A proven ability to communicate effectively to staff and management – including the ability to deliver technical presentations to internal and external audiences
•A Master’s degree in relevant business subject or equivalent experience/training
•Self-motivating and be able to work as part of a team as well as working in an independent discipline
•Advanced knowledge of all GI data and data modelling techniques
•Effective inputs to resource planning and recruitment of staff with GI Technical background
•Effective management of all sub-contractors (where appropriate)
•Conduct regular staff communication meetings for information dissemination
•Carry out process reviews in conjunction with Technical Design Authority
To identify and acquire intelligence about possible opportunities for Airbus Defence and Space
• To provide advice and instruction to Airbus Defence and Space’s current and prospective customers, where appropriate
• Security Clearance (or at least the ability to obtain full security clearance)
Familiarity with:
•Specific experience of advanced level usage of at least one of the following desktop
GIS application – ESRI ArcGIS, MapInfo, Cadcorp SIS (others will be considered)
•Good understanding of Geospatial Standards, e.g. OGC, WMS, WFS standards within a GIS environment and experience in their application, configuration and
deployment
•Knowledge and understanding of INSPIRE and GIS within a service oriented architecture approach
•Demonstrable technical experience of web based GIS services and applications using
ESRI ArcGIS Server and/or ArcIMS
•Specific knowledge of database management systems Oracle and / or SQL Server for managing spatial data; preferably with ArcSDE experience
•Familiarity with ETL software, specifically Safe software FME / FME Server would be an advantage
•Development experience with ArcObjects, VB.Net, java, python or java script
• Web technologies
