A full-time, three year, research opportunity has arisen to join the Lincoln Social Computing (LiSC) Research Centre in the School of Computer Science at the University of Lincoln (UK). LiSC has an established track record in conducting internationally leading research in social media and mobile computing, human-computer interaction (HCI) and games design.
A developing strand of the Centre’s work is focussed on delivering disruptive, critical, and adversarial digital design solutions that provocatively challenge conventional ways of thinking (see lisc.lincoln.ac.uk for details of our work). The successful candidate will work on the multi-partner CuRAtOR “Challenging online feaR And OtheRing” project funded from the ESRC led joint research councils Sandpit on “Empathy and Trust In Communicating Online (EMoTICON)”. LiSC are leading this project and the successful candidate will work with multi-disciplinary colleagues at both Lincoln and a range of CuRAtOR partner institutions on the design and evaluation of digital experiences and social media that challenge conventional thoughts about marginalised and stigmatised communities. The role of this Research Assistant will be focused on interactive software design, development and evaluation.
We are seeking applications by talented individuals who wish to develop a research career in HCI, interaction design and social computing. You must have a minimum of a good Honours degree in a relevant subject and have experience in software development (e.g. server/client web apps, mobile apps, REST APIs and social media) and knowledge of user-centred design and evaluation. Experience of designing and conducting user evaluation studies and undertaking data analysis would also be an advantage. Above all you must have a driving ambition to do research in HCI and demonstrate enthusiasm for designing disruptive digital experiences that have positive societal impact.
The position is fixed term for 3 years and offered on a full-time basis. For informal enquiries please contact Prof Shaun Lawson ([log in to unmask]). Start date is 31st July 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.
