Hi
I suspect this is an obvious question but I am looking for some guidance on copyright.
We have a collection of records which includes correspondence, and both published and unpublished data (meteorological observations) where the owner is a corporate body (the Royal Meteorological Society). In the case of some of the earliest data the creator is the Scottish Meteorological Society which was later subsumed into the Royal Meteorological Society.
I am aware that copyright in the case of a work whose owner is a company or other body is based on the life of the individual employee but we have no way of knowing the date of death of the individual observers and in many cases it is not possible to identify the individuals who created the records so.....what should be taken as the length of copyright on these records. I don't seem able to find any information on duration of copyright when the date of death of the author is not known.
Any guidance would be gratefully received!
Catherine
