That's a really good point Andy. We often order the basic paperback but if it's unobtainable we're offered the copy with extra 'access' instead at a higher price. Like you, we don't make use of the online elements as they're aimed at individual users and are therefore useless.

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Print Books with e-access
For any publishers out there.... Just a gripe.
Increasingly we a little scratch pad on the inside of the book giving online access to the book, often with extras on it like video. These are single access only and to be honest - a beggar to organise if you can be bothered to register for the access. After quite often struggling to get something registered and then keeping a spreadsheet of usernames and passwords, often for the same publisher but in their student or expert versions - to be honest we've just given up. We scratch the pad and black out all details. We wouldn't actually publicise the access to the network anyway - not exactly sure where we stand copyright wise for this anyway.
However what really riles us is the fact that we get charged extra for the access and VAT on this - for something we don't use.
Have publishers actually thought about a "library" edition of their interactive all singing all dancing book offerings - so we don't have to pay for something we don't actually use...???
Regards
Andy
