Hi All,
I thought I would ask if any of you have watched the GP surgery series on TV over the last few weeks. I did as wanted to see it from a different view.
The reason I say this is a child was seen by a GP ( 2nd episode I think) and the mother said she was told her child could not attend nursery due to being contagious and the GP that this was untrue and no reason she couldn’t and it annoyed her that nurseries had this policy.
I thought at the time...really?
Just thought I would share.
Last night I saw the third one on sky plus and there was a man with arthritis who said work was asking him to come in and the GP said' well this should do it...' as he handed a not fit for work cert for 2 weeks. Now maybe he could or could not work but it was not explored as to if a role was available office based or reduced hours. So much for Fit note guidance for GP's.

Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Suspend or Sickness - NHS Query
Hi Anita,
It would depend on the role but if there is the potential for the individual to work from home and he/she feels well enough to do this then I recommend it. As conjunctivitis is highly infectious it wouldn't do for the individual to attend work but as you stated if they feel well in themselves then home working may be a viable option. Would work just as well for other conditions too.
What do others think?
Kind regards,

Subject: Suspend or Sickness - NHS Query
Dear All
This is a query for NHS OH Provider's and anyone else that is able to contribute to a discussion. We are currently updating guidance for Communicable Diseases and are wondering how other Trusts/Employers advise regarding issues such as conjunctivitis where an individual is feeling 'well' but cannot work clinically due to infection risks, do you advise:-
Sickness absence - whilst initiating (in the case of conjunctivitis) treatment?
Suspension on infection control grounds whilst initiating treatment?
If suspending what other common infections to your suspend for?
Are there any threads on Jisc about this already that I can look for?
We don't want to reinvent the wheel (so to speak) and would appreciate all comments, thank you in advance for any information/comment received, Anita
