I'm looking at C19th UK lead mines and wonder if anyone on the lists
knows the term used to describe the process of lifting the shaft top by
2 or 3 fathoms in order to tip on top of the original tip. This can be
seen very clearly on Beevers and Old Moss Shafts on Grassington Moor,
which are also fine examples of tipping in radiating fingers, and
secondary over-tipping.Some of the latter even bifurcate near their
outer ends in order to better fill the valleys left between the tips in
the first layer.
