medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The Latin refrain " Quia Amore Langueo " (I suffer on love's account) is the
final line of a poem - 15th C ? whose first line is (spelling may vary !)
" In the vale of restless mind " and tells of an encounter with the
crucified Christ on a hill - the refrain is of course Christ's "Motto".
However, it is in my mind that this same refrain in attached to two other
poems. One of them a monologue of the Virgin Mary at the foot of the Cross
but the other unashamedly erotic and taking "AMOR" in its carnal sense.
Is there anyone out there who can give me a reference (preferably to the
whole text on-line but any ref will do) to either or both of these poems ?
I have a copy / ref to "Restless Mind".
I am digging into a memory some 50 years old so may have completely got the
situation fouled up!!!
Many thanks,
Brenda
