engage Special Interest Representative Opportunity

- Digital Programmes

Application deadline: 12pm Wednesday 11 June 2014

engage, the National Association for Gallery Education, are pleased to announce

the opportunity to become an engage Special Interest Representative for Digital

Programmes, to support and advise engage on the use of digital platforms and

technologies in gallery and visual arts education.

engage Area Group or Special Interest Representative Representatives work together

across the UK to help colleagues by:

- Supporting engage members in their region or area of expertise

- Helping to shape engageʼs work nationally

- Building engageʼs external networks.

As a membership organisation, with c.900 members throughout the UK and

internationally, engage values the views and input of our members. In particular we

benefit from the input of our network of volunteer Area Groups to support professional

development and networking across the nine regions of England. In Scotland and Wales

volunteer Development Groups support the coordinators to develop and deliver their

programmes.

The role of ʻArea Repʼ is very important to engage - there are two or three reps in most

areas who work together with support from the engage team to further our aim to

promote access to, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts through gallery

education.

ʻSpecial Interest Reps' are equally important, offering engage and Council the benefit of

specialist knowledge and experience in areas elected as important to the sector and

engage members.

engage Area and Special Interest Reps sit on a Council of members, attending three

meetings annually during which Members and staff discuss the organisationʼs policies

and programmes, as well as hear speakers on agreed topics that are relevant to the

sector and gallery education practice. Area Reps also programme up to four meetings

per year in their region, network with colleagues and take an active role in supporting

the gallery education sector, with the additional support of Special Interest Reps.

These are voluntary roles, though some support for travel and time is available to

freelancers.

The benefits of becoming a Council member include:

- 20% discount on conferences & training seminars in the UK organised by engage

centrally

- The opportunity to input into national gallery education policy and strategy

- Being part of a network of key people involved in gallery education in the UK

- Advice and guidance on accessing key organisations in the UK and other countries

- The chance to network with colleagues and form partnerships locally and nationally

Feedback from Council members on the benefits of their role..

ʻThe opportunity to network with peers in the sector, support colleagues through networking

events and act as an advocate for gallery education.ʼ

ʻOpportunity to contribute to the development of the sector, discuss, ideas and issues. Support

the continued development of an essential membership organisation.ʼ

ʻTo find out about current practice keep informed about policy, practice and current thoughts

Share knowledge and motivate othersʼ

ʻBeing part of an national team of learning professionals, networking, having a say in how to

approach changes in education policy, meeting engage council members from around the UK and

sharing best practice, creating events for members to share ideas and practice.ʼ

engage are seeking a Representative for the following vacancy:

- Special Interest Rep – Digital Programmes, to support and advise engage on the

use of digital technologies and platforms for gallery education.

engage is aware, through consultation, that digital technologies and platforms are

currently under-used in gallery education. engage would like to support the sector to

develop the use of digital technologies and platforms within gallery education. This year

engage has delivered three seminars on digital technologies and gallery education in

England, Scotland and Wales; Area Groups have also run sessions on this topic. The

2014 engage Conference in Leeds focuses on gallery education and innovation, and

will reference developing greater use of digital technologies and platforms in gallery

education. The Special Interest Rep - Digital Programmes will support engage Council

and engage with future plans in relation to digital technologies.

To apply, send a covering letter and CV to [log in to unmask]

by 12pm, Wednesday 11 June, with the subject line 'Application: Digital Rep'.

Please use the cover letter to detail your relevant experience and what you would bring

to the role, as well as why you are interested to apply. We hope the successful

candidate will be able to take up their role by early July.

Contact engage ([log in to unmask]) if you have any questions or would like to receive

further information.
