GARIBALDI IN LONDON
The Library and Museum of Freemasonry has opened a new exhibition about the Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi. In 1864 Garibaldi visited London. He was greeted by vast crowds, met the Prince of Wales and dined with the nobility and members of parliament. His reputation crossed social barriers so he also had meetings with ordinary working men, with clubs and societies - including several London masonic lodges - and with those who had fought alongside him for Italian Unification.
This exhibition marks the 150th Anniversary of his visit and explores Garibaldi's extraordinary impact on mid Victorian society.
The exhibition runs from 19th May-29th August 2014.
The Library and Museum is located on the edge of Covent Garden at
Freemasons’ Hall
60 Great Queen Street
London WC2B 5AZ
Open: Monday-Friday 10am to 5pm
Exhibition is free admission
