I'm afraid not. Slightly worryingly it came from a set of t2k docs at
Lancaster[1] (that require a t2k login) that one of our local t2k guys
was directed to. The instructions for accessing files at RAL do indeed
say to use root's native xroot support for normal access, but then
suggest this as a handy way of poking around the system to find the files
that you then want to load into root 'properly'.
Given all the talk in recent times about gfalfs etc. I was surprised I'd
not heard of this. Plus it is an appealingly amusing hack.
