University of the West of England invite you to this one day workshop aims to connect home with mobility and migration, to explore how home is theorized and analysed within the mobile paradigm. Workshop themes could include:
• The home as a nexus of mobilities.
• Concepts of home in the everyday mobility and migration.
• Gender, the home and mobility and migration.
• Work, home and mobility and migration.
• Older people, home and mobility.
Home sometimes disappears in the analysis of mobility, where the experience of being on the move is the focus, rather than the places at either end. Of course, home itself may be nomadic, but the place called ‘home’ still has social resonance and meaning, even if those meanings are contested. There is an opportunity to explore how the home is positioned in existing academic narratives of mobility and migration, and the potential for new interpretations and approaches.
One space still available for a presentation. Please send proposals of no more than 250 words to [log in to unmask] by 31st May 2014.
