Invitation for Expressions of Interest in Joining the Editorial Collective of Critical Social Policy
We would be glad to hear from individuals interested in becoming members of the Critical Social Policy Editorial Collective (EC).
Critical Social Policy provides a forum for advocacy, analysis and debate on social policy issues. We aim to publish critical perspectives which:
* acknowledge and reflect upon differences in political, economic, social and cultural power, and upon the diversity of cultures and movements shaping social policy;
* re-think conventional approaches to securing rights, meeting needs and challenging inequalities and injustices;
* include perspectives, analyses and concerns of people and groups whose voices are unheard or underrepresented in policy- making;
* reflect the lived experiences of users of existing benefits and services;
* and audit the impact of policies on inequalities and injustices, and the oppression of individuals and communities.
We aim to reach beyond an academic audience to include as both readers and contributors those who are involved in social policy issues through political or user activism, or as practitioners, professionals and workers developing policies and providing services.
We welcome expressions of interest from individuals from any of these constituencies. We aim to have representation from practitioners and academics at all stages of the career cycle.
We are looking for new members of the EC with expertise in any areas of social policy, including those which embrace transnational perspectives including all parts of the UK. Because Critical Social Policy is a broad based social policy journal, EC members are expected to be able to review across a range of general social policy issues as well as within their specific area of expertise. Applicants are therefore asked to demonstrate a commitment to the general area of social policy as well as to specific areas of expertise.
EC Membership involves attending four EC meetings per year. Meetings are held on Saturdays and normally take place in central London. Attendance in person at the quarterly meetings is an expectation. All reasonable expenses are paid for attendance at EC meetings.
Each article submitted to the journal is read anonymously by three members of the EC, so decisions on article publication are the central focus of our work. Various tasks such as business management, editorial coordination (articles & commentary), conference organiser, reviews editor and production editor are taken on voluntarily by established members of the group.
