Dear David, Suzanne and Fabio,
Thanks for your responses, I am really glad to have access to this support/forum. It certainly is great to hear that there has been action research that has occurred within prisons. I’m really glad for the links, and will look into them. David, I like the idea of linking in with community based support networks, there are allies in the institution that are keen to develop this too, therefore it’ll be great to get some ‘cutting edge research’ as I imagine that may hold weight with the governors.
Fabio, whilst my role is primarily therapeutically based, or rather I am commissioned to do some form of therapy in prison, to individuals, I am keen to look at what I with people in prison (at all hierarchical levels) can do to change situations within the prison itself. My current ideas, whilst not research based are to see whether there is scope to use Forum Theatre, it’s just a thought though. It’d be great to keep the conversation going, and I’ll most probably email you individually.
Suzanne, I was aware of the Midlands group having previously attended meetings around 2007. I was unsure whether the meetings were still going on, I’ll see if I can email some of the people that used to attend. If not, I’ll think of trying to reignite something, with the grand hope of trying to collaborate with other more Midland-y based CP practitioners. I do need to reorient myself with non-psychology driven ‘actual’ community practitioners too though!
Thanks again, I'm going to start small whilst keeping larger goals in mind, I still have Craig's email in the back of my head of keeping with the small wins!
Best wishes
Abdullah
