Hi all,
Has anyone taken up the reduced sub to BD Online?
If so, have you just got on-campus access only? We were hoping to use EZProxy for off campus but this doesn't work due to Flash.
Is there a way around it?
Also our IT dept (email below) additionally report Flash not compatible with new Android devices?
Is this something we could take back to BD as a group?
Thanks,
Elaine Cooke

Subject: RE: Access to BD Online
We can't use EZProxy with this as it uses a Flash-based reader thing instead of PDFs.
EZProxy can't work with Flash as it can't see the URLs inside the Flash container in order to change them (rewriting URLs is how EZP works), so if you want off-campus access you'll need to negotiate a different authentication method.
Usually these magazine-type publications aren't equipped for Shibboleth. You might get lucky, I don't know, it's not my area.
Otherwise a single username/password combination we can serve up via the online passwords mechanism is usually the only option.
We've now got several of these publications (The Grocer and Modern English Teacher spring to mind), and they are a complete pest both for us and for users.
Anything that relies on Flash is a waste of time and effort. It won't work on any mobile devices apart from antediluvian Android kit, and availability of apps (their usual response to this problem, and the one this lot push if you visit their site on an iPad) is also no use, as they are aimed at individual subscribers and won't work with institutional access.
