Edinburgh Napier University is seeking to recruit a Head of Planning to develop and maintain an effective business planning framework for the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan.
You will be responsible for managing and guiding the annual Faculty/ School and Service planning process; co-ordinating the production of related corporate plans and working in partnership with Finance Services to ensure that there is a clear relationship between institutional plans and budgets. You will advise the Principal and other senior staff on the implications of external policy developments, and in liaison with others support the development of any internal policies and procedures that may be necessary to secure the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan. You will lead the process of negotiating institutional Outcome Agreements with the SFC and report progress against agreed measures on behalf of the University. You will lead the planning team and ensure the provision of a responsive and high quality service to both internal and external stakeholders, in particular by providing timely and accurate management information to support target setting and performance monitoring. You will also ensure that the University’s statutory data returns to external bodies such as the SFC, HESA (or successor organisations) and other official bodies are accurate, timely and compliant.
You will have a degree or equivalent along with demonstrable experience of working in a comparable planning environment at a senior level. You will have a proven track record of success in strategy and policy development and a clear understanding and experience of the strategic and corporate planning process and key performance indicators within higher education. You will have experience of producing papers and briefing notes on policy related topics to inform senior management decision making along with experience of financial management, including budget preparation and control. You will have experience of leading, motivating and coaching staff and of successfully managing and implementing projects that have an institution-wide impact. You will have the ability to work effectively with and influence diverse internal and external groups including senior management teams and will possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. You will have the ability to manage change and respond positively to new challenges and will possess a creative and innovative approach to strategic thinking and problem solving.
