Subject: DwB: A unique opportunity for EU researchers to work with European microdata
Dear Colleagues,
For your information reminder of the DwB call that you have all received
before. There are still three deadlines left. You are welcome to forward
the below text to potential applicants - and apply yourself, of course.
As usual, I am sending this to several lists, so my apologies for any
multiple messages you may receive.
Regards,
Helena Laaksonen
On behalf of the DwB project
*Reminder: Support for transnational access to official microdata
- call for research proposals
under the FP7 EU project "Data without Boundaries" (DwB)*
To enhance access across borders to official microdata, the FP7-funded
Data without Boundaries project offers different kinds of support for
the work with highly-detailed data from a number of European
countries. Depending upon the Research Data Centre, available datasets
are business data and household surveys considered to be too detailed,
confidential or sensitive to be provided through standard access
mechanisms.
There are three remaining opportunities to apply. The deadlines for
submitting proposals are 15th of April, 15th June and 15th of October 2014.
Please, read further information and the instructions on how to apply
carefully at: http://www.dwbproject.org/access/call.html
The call is available also as pdf

2nd Annual International Weight Stigma Conference
University of Kent, Canterbury, UK
24th June 2014
Call for Abstracts
Weight stigma is pervasive in society and has implications for healthcare, education, employment and everyday quality of life. Despite rising levels of anti-fat prejudice in all areas of daily life, discrimination on the basis of weight is generally not covered by anti-discrimination legislation. Moreover, intersectionality has emerged as a critical lens for recognizing the overlap of various forms of exclusion and discrimination. Although still often treated as mutually exclusive, the intersections of race, gender, class, sexual identity, age, ability, religion, and nationality represent complex identities that must be factored into how we approach weight stigma. The more we can do to understand weight stigma, the more we can undo in terms of the negative consequences that result from it.
The Weight Stigma Conference brings together scholars and practitioners from a range of disciplines (e.g., psychology, medicine, public health, allied health professions, education, sports and exercise science, social sciences, media studies, business, public policy, law) to consider research, policy, rhetoric, and practice around the issue of weight stigma.
We invite abstracts of 200 words or less for oral presentations lasting 10 minutes, including questions, and for posters.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
• Weight stigma across the weight spectrum
• Weight stigma across social identities
• Causes of weight stigma
• Weight stigma in health professionals
• Impact of weight stigma on health and wellbeing
• Stigma in society
• Public policy implications
• Legislation addressing weight-based discrimination
• Interventions to reduce weight stigma
Presentations on new and emerging research in other areas pertaining to anti-fat bias are also welcome. Students are especially encouraged to submit proposals. All abstracts should be submitted using the form on the website.
Deadline for submission is 30th April.
Sponsorship: A range of sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available. Please see the website for more information.
