Dear list, following previous posts Lynda and I have emailed each other off list. I too had such contradictory 'advice' from the RCN that I investigated alternative insurance. We now have professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover which I arranged through an independent broker. Prior to this we contacted the MDU who seemed to have a one size fits all approach and the premiums were massive. What we ended up with is a policy/underwriter which understands our business activities and the potential risks and as a result a much more realistic premium. However having never made a claim I don't know what they would be like if it ever came to it. - I hope I never find out!
I have remained an RCN member (I've just realised I've been a member for 28 years this year!!!!) but I'm questioning how much bang I get for my buck - Is the RCN really in tune with OH? I stopped going to the RCN OH conference years ago (I can't see that one even takes place now) in favour of the Institute of OH conference as I felt it to be more relevant and professional.
If anyone would like the contact details of my broker please contact me off list.
Best wishes,
Ian.
