I requested the Day Book 1862-64 at Salop Archives about 10 years ago and it was reported "regrettably lost" - most likely misfiled I would guess. Unless someone requests the box it is now in and the counter assistant notices the item number doesn't go with the box, it is unlikely to be rediscovered. Surely worth a try though - maybe next visit
If, as is likely, and as I have written about in British Mining No.78 (Memoirs 2005), viz "Snailbeach Mine: Pumping and Winding Machinery c.1782-1856", the Cornish engine was installed in a major development of the mine by Capt. Jonathan Harrison in 1848, we are unlikely to find a reference to it in the Salop Archives. I have been through both Longueville collections there and never found any documents at all of that date. Neither is there anything to do with Harrison in the Henlle Hall collection.
The 1884 valuation by Arthur Waters, first raised here by Kelvin and which finally gave us many answers to the original query, is of more than passing significance. It was an essential component to the new Snailbeach Lead Mining Co Ltd making a fair offer for the mine to the old Snailbeach Mine Co Ltd which was then in liquidation. By agreement between the three parties (Lord Bath and the old and new companies) there was no break in operation. Glad I didn't need to dig out my copy!
Greetings to all after some years away from the List,
