Might one ask where exactly in Maidstone it was taken?
The ER looks like Elizabeth R on her postboxes, which might or might not be significant.
Edward the 7th and 8th had more ornate initials on their postboxes. There is an EviiiR in Maidstone and I'm wondering if the picture was taken close to it. Again it might be important.

Hi all,
A customer has taken this photo on a suburban street in Maidenhead (attached). He doesn't know what the item is, and nor do I!
A look on the 'net shows up one similar one elsewhere ... https://www.flickr.com/photos/54266035@N02/6059423309/sizes/l/ which includes a mark at the bottom which I recognize, but can't remember where from - trig points, maps?
Can anyone advise?
