Dear All,
we are looking for 3-4 partners from eligible countries to implement the project:
Low cost, high efficiency digitalization of historical medical books from periferal European Medical Academies.
Main objective: to build up a network of European medical academies/medical schools aimed at establishing an open on-line library focussed on academic proceedings and medical books to document the transition from vitalism to scientific medicine. Digitalized material will be freely accessible from any peripheral computer.
Project features:
1. Preferential consideration of academic proceedings/books from periferal yet important medical academies from late XVIII to mid XX century.
2. Funding for establishing one technical unit/participant with same scanning machine, kind of electronic repository and OCR transfer software. Our present technical setting: low-cost/high-efficiency scanner with high-resolution photographic technique; scanning capacity 600-800 pages/hour; high output/cost-per-page ratio. Total cost/unit: approx 20,000E; average output/unit: 6-8 books/day, ie 1200-1600 books scanned/transferred to the web/year, approx.5000 books/3yrs project. We will share expertise/know-how, instruct partners.
